Also, we are now enrolling for our second First Grade class. Once this fills up, we will not start another class. If you have already turned in your re-enrollment form, thank you! Early enrollment helps us to plan, purchase, and hire now for the fall. If you are planning to enroll but have not done so yet, we encourage you to complete your enrollment form today. Also, remember that when you refer a family who enrolls, you can earn a $100 tuition credit. So spread the word about CCA. Help grow your school and reduce your tuition at the same time!

Thank you to everyone for helping to make our SAT / Noon Dismissal week a success. We know that it takes extra planning on your part for the early dismissals and helping to keep this big building quiet. But everyone did an excellent job and we appreciate it very much. Important Packet Coming Home

A very important packet of information is coming home with each child in Prek4 – 6th grade today. This packet contains information on how to receive your child’s end-of-the-year records including their last Report Card and their SAT test results. Please take the time to go through this packet and return the information that you are asked to return.

Employee of the Year

It’s the time of year when we are gearing up for our Awards Ceremony. This includes our Employee of the Year Award. Please read the enclosed ballot carefully and make your selection. These must be returned by noon next Friday, April 26 in order to be counted. Please drop them off in tuition boxes in either building.

First Grade Conference Note

Mrs. Jones will be doing her Parent/Teacher conferences next week. If you have not signed up yet, please do so right away.

NOON DISMISSAL WEEK

Next week (April 22 – 26) is SAT week and also early dismissal week for elementary (K – 6th) students. (Prek4 will have a normal schedule.) Elementary students who need care after 12:00 noon any day during this week must have a reservation on file. We have scheduled After School staffing to accommodate students who returned the forms by the April 16 deadline. Lunch will be served later this week than normal and will only be served to students who are scheduled for After Care. If you have placed an HLB order, but plan to pick your child up at noon, simply cancel your order online before midnight Sunday night and it will be credited to your account.

SAT Week

If your child is in grades Kindergarten through 6th, they will be taking the SAT achievement tests next week, April 22 – 26. The SAT tests are very important for your child because they help us to determine specific needs that individual students have, as well as, determining how we can make our academic program stronger.

There are ways that you can help your child to do their very best and relieve stress during this testing week.

  • Make sure your child is in bed early each night. A rested child scores higher and is less stressed about testing.
  • Make sure your child has a nutritious (not sugary) breakfast before coming to school each day. Remember, breakfast is the brain’s fuel and it will help your child to think more clearly as he/she take tests.
  • Pack a nutritious mid-morning snack for your child each day. Teachers will still observe morning snack breaks during the test week. A snack might be just the thing to pep up a tired or sleepy child. Please avoid sugary snacks and juices.
  • Make sure your child is on time every day. Tests will begin immediately at 8:45 a.m. following praise and worship each day. (There will be no chapel on Thursday next week.) Children who are rushing in as tests begin, start their test stressed out. We cannot hold up testing for late students. Tardy students will have to wait in the office until their class finishes the subtest in progress before they can enter the classroom. We do not guarantee that missed tests can be made up.
  • Make sure your child is present each day unless it is completely unavoidable. Make-up tests can be stressful for children and present unnecessary concerns to them. We highly encourage you to have your child at school every single day next week if at all possible. Also, scheduling make-up tests delays our ability to return all of our tests for scoring. This delays getting results back in a timely manner. We are also under a time constraint for returning tests for scoring, so makeup tests are not guaranteed.
  • Be available to talk to your child each afternoon or evening about any concerns they might have. Some children do tend to become stressed or anxious by this kind of testing, and an encouraging word is usually all they need. What should you tell your child? Tell them that these tests are very important, but they will not affect promotion to the next grade level. Tell them that if they try their hardest and do their very best, then they will have done their job well.

Thanks for helping your child to do their very best! And please remember that next week is a Noon Dismissal week for K – 6th students.

Houston Bar Association

Thank you to the Houston Bar Association for doing a wonderful reading with our First and Second grade students this week. CCA was chosen as one of 100 schools in the Houston Area to be included in the HBA spring readings.

Infant Program

Dear Parents,

I wanted to let everyone know that we have made a decision to begin phasing out our Infant Class. We will, of course, allow currently enrolled infants to complete their program and move to the next level. But after our current group of children has moved up, we will no longer offer care for children under one year of age. (It will take close to a year to totally phase out this program.)
It has been our pleasure taking special care of the infants. We also want to say thank you for entrusting us with your children. We have a well-established track record and our services have always met with great customer satisfaction. We not only provide great services at a very competitive price, but we are also known for our quality of service. We are an expanding school with a bright future ahead of us. Please feel free to contact me or Mrs. Andrews with any additional questions you may have regarding this plan.

Best Regards,
Jaaxhiel Tochez, Preschool Director

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend!

Champions Chatter – March 28, 2013

Easter Break

The CCA Elementary building is on Easter Break Good Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1. There is no care for elementary students (K – 6th grade) on either day. The Preschool building is closed on Good Friday, but open on Monday, April 1. Prek4 will continue normally and tuition is due regardless of attendance. Prek4 students needing care will go to the preschool building on that day. Prek4 students who plan to be in attendance on that Monday should have returned a reservation form. These were due yesterday. If you need care but did not complete a form, call the school office before 5 p.m. today to check on availability.

Our New Assistant Principal

As all of you know, we promoted Mrs. Jaaxhiel Tochez on March 8 to the Preschool Director position, leaving her former role as Assistant Principal vacant. I tried extremely hard to clone Mrs. Tochez, but since that didn’t work, we did the next best thing and hired someone to fill her former role!

Ms. Jennifer Rollie (pronounced like “Raleigh”, North Carolina) was hired this week and will be starting on Tuesday, April 2. Mrs. Tochez will be personally training her, so please be patient as she learns all the ropes and all your names and faces. The job of an AP is a multi-faceted one and an AP traditionally wears many hats, so it will take just a little while for her to catch up to where Mrs. Tochez was before her promotion. Also, please keep in mind that parents will only need to learn one new face. But with students, parents, staff, approved pick-up people, etc., Ms. Rollie will have to learn an estimated 300 names and faces very quickly! This means if she does not know you, she will ask for identification if you’re picking up a child. We will try to help her learn quickly to reduce the number of ID requests, but we do ask you to understand that if she asks for an ID, it is for your child’s safety.

We welcome Ms. Rollie to our staff and look forward to working with her! Stop by and introduce yourself; she would love to meet you!

Parent/Teacher Conference Day and NOON DISMISSAL

Students who cannot be picked up at noon, MUST return a reservation form to stay in after care on that date. The reservation form was sent home last week and is due not later than Tuesday, April 2. If you need a form, it can be downloaded from the Forms and Information page.

Also please note that if your account is paid late, the release of records is not immediate. It generally takes 24 – 48 hours for payments to be posted and records released.

It’s a Girl!

Congratulations to Mrs. Jones (1st Grade). She and her husband welcomed Lyric Denise Jones, their second child and first daughter on Wednesday, March 6 at 8:25 a.m. She weighed 8 lbs., 4 oz. and measured 21 inches long.

More Congratulations

As we say goodbye to our friend Rolonda Mallory, we have offered Assistant Principal Jaaxhiel Tochez the promotion of moving up to Preschool Director. She will still be teaching elementary Spanish and moving between the two buildings for a little while to come, but her primary duties will now shift to the preschool building. Promoting Mrs. Tochez was an easy choice. She has earned the opportunity for promotion and we always love to promote from within when possible. Her first job is to clone herself! She will be working with Mrs. Andrews to fill her vacated office position quickly. We will post updated information on that as soon as it happens.
